What is Shipping & Logistics?
Since we are far off from the Sea Port, most of us think Shipping means a job on a Ship – As Captain, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer, 3rd Engineer, 2nd Officer, 3rd Officer, Crew, and Chef etc... Those are the jobs inside the Ship, for which you need to join The Merchant Navy. (Means Ships which carriers Export and Import cargo worldwide OR Cruise Ships OR Small Passenger Ships.) - Above mentioned are the jobs on board the ship or vessel. (A Mode of Transportation)
BUT
Shipping Industry is a main mode of transportation of goods or cargo (Import and Export) by Cargo Ships around the world in containers (20ft, 40ft, 40ft High Cube and Reefer Containers etc..) or as Bulk Cargo, therefore the companies involves in Canvassing and Controlling these cargoes. And these companies have following departments like Marketing, Operations, Documentation, Customer care and Accounts. The companies involved are M.L.O, N.V.O.C.C, Freight forwarder, C.H.A, Logistic Movers etc...
Every Port round the world including India has Agents for Vessels, Container, Vessel and Container agents, Freight Forwarders, Yard operators, Logistics Providers, Warehousing etc. Or in some ports the Owner has their - (Own Direct Office.)
Note: World’s major cargo movements for the International Trade moves through Ships by Sea and Oceans. So you can imagine the Importance and How vast is this Industry. (The Shipping & Logistics Industry).
What is Logistics?
Logistics means transportation of goods from one end to another OR from one place to another place by using any means of transportation, that is (Road, Rail, Sea and Air) or two or three Modes of Transportation Combined together.
